The basic care for a polyester cord rug is not much different from caring for a regular store-bought rug.
Moreover, crocheted rugs can be washed in a regular home washing machine (if the size allows).
So what to do with the rug:
- Shake it out periodically.
- Vacuum with a brushless attachment.
- If heavily soiled, wash it.
- Machine or hand wash at 30-40°C (86-104°F).
- Spin at low speeds, 400-600.
- Dry it flat on a horizontal surface.
- For dry cleaning, the same recommendations apply.
- Do not use conditioner-rinse.
- Do not dry on hot surfaces.
What to do with large rugs that don't fit in the washing machine?
I have a counter-question, what do you do with store-bought rugs that also don't fit in the washing machine?
You wouldn't even think of cramming them in there, right? 😉
So, I'll repeat, the fact that crocheted rugs can be washed is their huge advantage!
If your rug doesn't fit in a household washing machine, take it to a laundromat, they have larger drums.
If it still doesn't fit there, you can wash it in the bathtub (I've done it more than once).
You can also take it to a car wash. But it's easier to call a service that will clean your rug right at home.
Again, considering that you can vacuum the rug and spot clean it, how many years will it take before you need to wash it? 😉
